Baby season is over, almost everyone has been released, and we're ready for fall treats and eats. Persimmons are on the daily menu, thanks to our friend Debbie who has collected a good many for us. I like being able to provide a natural diet with foods they would find in abundance at this time, like apples, grapes, persimmons, and nuts. Crickets are also a tasty treat!
Three siblings, residents at Primarily ‘Possums since they were joeys, were released on a secluded property near the Broad river. These kids have always been rather grumpy, and will do well in the wild.
Meanwhile, the 4 overwintering kids got to explore the great outdoors in one of the 4 pre-release enclosures. They will rotate between the 4 over the fall and winter season to keep their minds active and their bodies moving. Opossums can adapt to captivity pretty quickly, they know a good situation when they are presented with one! All the food they want, a warm bed, fresh water, things to climb and wheels to run on keeps them happy.
