12 more opossums out the door and into freedom! I still have 9 or 10 more to release in the next week. There are 6 who may be ready to go by the end of October, but it may also be too late weather-wise.
On Saturday the 12th, UGA students with Serve UGA helped clear all the construction debris and collection of unnecessary and broken objects and fill and entire 12 yard dumpster from BCI construction. It looks so clear and peaceful inside the fenced area now. Volunteers Alex and Sadie have helped me start deep cleaning the two now-empty enclosures and later this month Serve UGA will come again to finish deep cleaning and put them to bed for fall. Eventually they will be filled with the overwintering babies, but they will be in smaller cages for a while. Too Tee and Tee Too will likely spend the entire fall and winter inside. Janie is doing great at her new job at Chattahoochee Nature Center and we are hoping Laundry Room Linda will also head there soon. It’s slowing down although calls for help with squirrels come in daily. I wish more people rehabbed squirrels, the two new rehabbers in the area shut down/took a break in July so poor Josalyn is taking all those babies. She’s a trooper and has taken them on whole heartedly. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed the photos!
