The biggest news this month has been that I was awarded a scholarship to attend the National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association symposium in February, 2026! I owe huge thanks to Dr. Allene Phillips, DVM and Kathryn Dudeck of Chattahoochee Nature Center for writing compelling reference letters. I have also signed up for two online courses- Principles of Wildlife Rehabilitation, Basic and Advanced, and the hands-on labs at the Symposium. I send many thanks to the people who helped raise money for me to attend in case I didn't get the scholarship- now those funds can cover the rest of the cost of fencing.
Deck the Hollow
My friend Heather of Vincent’s Place, a farm animal sanctuary in Winterville, GA, helped me run the Primarily ‘Possums booth at Deck the Hollow on December 13th. It is a very fun event at Bear Hollow Zoo in Athens.
Bear Hollow Zoo has only non-releasable native Georgia wildlife and is open to the public, and free! They have an assortment of habitats and animals, and the whole zoo is full of educational opportunities. Deck the Hollow is a special winter event with fun inflatable decorations, skits and singalongs, and hot chocolate and smores. There were live animal encounters in the reptile house, including Gumbo and Shrimp, the zoo’s new opossum ambassadors! You can visit their website to learn more HERE.
Thank you, Katy Manley, for thinking of us and sending sardines and milk replacer off our Amazon wish list! Sarah would say ‘thank you’ too, as sardines are one of her favorite foods, but she was asleep.
I am always adding needed items to both our Amazon and Chewy wish lists. You can access them through the link at the top of the page.
It’s going to be bitterly cold the next two nights but everyone is either inside of outside with plenty of wheat straw and radiant heaters. It will be warming up into the upper 60’s later this week, though. Stay tuned for an end-of-year post in 2 weeks. Thanks for reading and supporting Primarily ‘Possums!
