Opossums released! Bats released! New little old ladies and one bat holdover. Sping has been kind to me.

Volunteer Dawn helped me check out a release site on her aunt’s property.  It has a swamp, creeks, mixed hardwoods, and fields.  We trekked out there with the 5 “babies” and had a little adventure.  All 5 were fascinated by the smells and textures they had never encountered.  This is the group that came in the fall and needed more supportive care than I had ever provided.  They were going downhill quickly and it felt like a life or death race.  They did stabilize and started growing, and growing!

Here is a video of the Precious Possums Pentad, once known as the Pitiful Possum Pentad, once they were a little more stabilized.

This is the last video of them- Twinkle was unsure about leaving me (although she did desire to be free) and chased after me.  This was painful but necessary.

BAT RELEASE!!!

Volunteer Maggie and I drove to Dawsonville to release one of the Big Brown bats.
He flew off and certainly found his family.
Sarah has mild head trauma related behavior such as blindness and mild circling when agitated. She is a sweet little lady, around a year old, and has a pouchful of very small joeys.
Lady, another brain damaged and blind opossum, has a nice and safe life. She enjoys running on her wheel and has discovered bananas are as much fun to sleep in as to eat.
The three faces of Yam, the last bat in my care.
She is much smaller than average and prefers being hand fed. This coddling won't last much longer!
As soon as insect activity is consistent, she will be returned to her colony in Tiger, GA.

So far this year, calls have been quiet but I know soon I'll have to prepare a voice message directing people towards help- either on this website or elsewhere- and figure out a way to funnel a few litters and individuals to the 3 new rehabbers I am helping to train. Those rehabbers will supply me with plenty of updates and photos to share. Thanks for reading, watching, and staying involved with the sometimes-madness of Primarily 'Possums!
