A whole month has passed since the last blog post! It has been relatively quiet and I even got away for a camping vacation. Thank you, Scarlet, for making that possible and taking such good care of the animals and plants.

Thank you, Kroger shoppers who have designated Primarily 'Possums as your Community Rewards charity! We get a quarterly check based on a percentage of what enrolled families spend. At no cost to you! This female Box turtle, now named Lucy, was accidentally injured by a lawnmower cutting very tall grass. The top of her shell was cut. No before pictures! Keeping your grass at a manageable level prevents injuries like this.
A turtle's shell is a living part of their body, not just bony plates. Their backbone is attached to the underside of the shell! She received antibiotics and pain management and daily cleanings and topicals. She will be ready to go home once this heat spell passes.
The last photos of Sarah's ridiculous babies before they were released.
They never lost their goofy expressions.
She was an excellent Mama and raised them right. They stayed wild!
They were released in an idyllic setting the next county over.
Last year I put out a call on the Primarily 'Possums Facebook page looking for potential release sites. Thank you, Jennifer Wagner, for sharing your land with them.
I found the perfect hollow tree to put them in where they could assess the situation and wait until dark.
I left them with a nice mouse snack.
They will do fine!
Marzipan has been here for well over 6 weeks recovering from injuries, both old and new, and general debilitation. He looks so much better and feels better too! He has been through antibiotic therapy for his wounds and two rounds of deworming- both lasting 3 weeks. His fur has grown back, he has doubled in weight, and his spirits are good. Once this heat spell breaks, he will go back to his home location.
The June Bugs are here for babysitting while Maggie tends to business.
It is so very hard to spend time with them, woe is me.
They will be back August 6 through 10, how very difficult this will be,
I think they are all perfect.
I don't know how anyone gets any work done around here.
You can see her little chompers erupting from her gums. She can bite though! They eat what drops from Mom's mouth, and they also bite to hold on if travel gets bumpy.
Sleeping peacefully.
Someone woke up!

Littler is staying little.  His growth may be stunted (from poor pre- and post-natal nutrition) but he is a powerhouse!  Here is a fun video.

BONUS CONTENT!!! In case you ever need to feed an opossum who is blind and brain damaged, which makes focused movement nearly impossible, here is a helpful tutorial.  Sweet Pea has an excellent quality of life and is always in a good mood, even when she is sleeping.

Earl and June will be released next week, and Biggler and Littler still have some growing to do. I received a juvenile female opossum named Koi from another rehabber who thought she was becoming too tame. “Bring her here!” I said, “I’ll untame her!”. And I did!
Second round of opossum baby season has started and while I am enjoying baby sitting, it is nice to have this time to enjoy summer, for the first time in over 10 years!
Thanks for reading along and I hope you enjoyed the photos and video!
