Goodbye MailerLite, hello MailPoet! I’ve switched blog subscription services, so hopefully we won’t see the same interruptions.
Lt. Dan and Winky
Rich Bergins designed and built a wheelchair for Lt. Dan, seen fast asleep under his friend Winky. Winky’s eye surgery went well, but the eye itself appears damaged and he doesn’t have much sight out of it. I’m continuing with medical care in hopes that his eyesight improves. While the wheelchair doesn’t fit Lt. Dan perfectly, it’s a good start. He’s improving in his grip strength and mobility but is still unable to walk.
New Intakes
I received a healthy adult male Big brown bat from Jesse Clark of AWL Wildlife Control. Mister Bat was all by himself in the attic of a home for sale. The prospective owners did not want a bat as a tenant so he was removed. The entrance into the attic is going to be sealed up so no more bats move in. Until then, Mister Bat will stay with me, eating mealworms and staying warm. If I released him, he would go right back there! He will stay here until that’s performed and it stays above 40 degrees at night for several nights in a row.
Mister Handsome
Mister Handsome was found by the side of a busy road in Athens, GA, by the son of a friend of mine. They brought him in and kept him warm until I could go get him. He had superficial wounds on his arm and neck, although I suspected he had been hit by a car.
Sadly, he only lived a couple days longer, succumbing to what most likely was a closed head injury. He was warm, ate some tasty meals, and slept on soft blankets.
Sometimes all I can do is give them a soft place to spend their last hours or days.
Blossom, Victoria, and the Brothers
Blossom and Victoria’s tail wounds finally healed after 2 weeks inside on antibiotics. The source of the injuries is the hardware cloth that covers all the cages. I don’t know why only the girls are injuring their tail tips as they climb down the wire walls- using their tails as 5th hands- but it’s a problem I’m trying to solve.
Right now all 4 are in a new-to-them enclosure with lots of logs to climb and spots to hide. Check out the funny and very relaxed pose Little Brother is in, in the second photo! He’s on his back, with his upper body in the “foyer” part of the heated cat house, and his hind end is in with Victoria.
I’m so glad they all get along.
