From 4 opossums to 22 in 48 hours, and another on the way! I swear I am still on sabbatical, I just happen to be caring for a lot of animals.

Volunteer Ashley brought a slew of jute coffee bags, donated by Charlie Mustard and Jittery Joes coffee in Athens. So far I’ve got one hung as a snuggle sack and one as a hammock, but I need to research other uses. These are so cool! HUGE and food safe, so animal mouth safe. We talked about making rope ladders, or macrame climbing structures, I bet other rescues have great ideas.

One of the newest, cutest and grumpiest patients is Roberta. I have never had a baby this small hate me this much. She happily licked formula from the syringe, but when she turned her head and saw me, she hissed! This happened over and over. “Mmmm, warm milk”, “Hey! Who are you?”
If she was scared it would be a cause for providing some comfort but no, not this girl. She wants to do it on her own! She now has a huge cage to herself with a never-ending bowl of formula and various size appropriate treats available for her perusing in private.

Thank you, Charlie Mustard and Jittery Joe’s Coffee Roasters for all the jute coffee bags! Thank you Ashley for lending your greenery and design skills. Everyone is having so much fun! I really thought I would escape the whole year without ending up with a full house but things happen, and when they do, I try to be there. There are 3 other new kids who are painfully shy and will stay inside in a controlled environment until they feel safe and secure. They are at the right weight to go outside but it would traumatize them. No unhappy babies, here. And yes, it’s true they aren’t all “babies” but to me, they are and will always be.
